Tech Tutors
Tech Tutors is a program with the goal of closing the gap in the digital divide. It pairs a high school student and an active older adult to help the older adult gain knowledge and confidence about using a device of their choosing. Common topics covered in Tech Tutor sessions include
- learning the basic operation of the device
- changing settings to enlarge fonts, buttons, and icons
- adjusting the screen brightness for people with impaired vision.
Additionally, the adults learn about browsing safety including spotting phishing emails and online scams, how to personalize their preferences on their devices, and also the basics of things like talk to text, working with online search engines and using social networks to help reduce isolation.
High school students benefit by gaining valuable job skills, like how to mentor others. Along the way the student and active older adult also get a chance to build a mutual learning relationship as well as intergenerational connections.
